Highlanders 0-2 FC Platinum (Silas Songani 2)
There were ugly scenes in the first minute of stoppage time as disgruntled Highlanders fans threw missiles onto the pitch resulting in a lengthy stoppage on Saturday.
The missile throwing which was in bits and pieces for most of the match got worse from Empakweni stand following two tackles on substitute Ray Lunga that the Bosso fans felt should have been fouls, before spreading to the Soweto stand.
With the referee Arnold Sibanda waving play on, all sorts of missiles started raining onto the pitch including Irrigation pipes extension corners which were still on the field as the stadium is going through renovations.
Riot police managed to push out of the stadium most of the fans from Empakweni and Soweto stands and the outstanding one minute was played before the referee blew to end the match.
It was a poor advertisement for the PSL as this was in a way the season’s opener although the fixtures for the new season are not yet out.
FC Platinum fans at the Mpilo end made their way onto the field to go and occupy the wings section as they feared for their safety.
On the field the platinum miners had raced onto a two nil lead at the break with a brace from new signing Silas Songani.
They seemed to slow down the pace in the second half as Bosso tried to improve with the introduction of Tinashe Makanda and Lunga.
Bosso’s damage had been done in the first half where in midfield Nqobizitha Masuku was the only genuine ball winner with , the rest in that department like Prince Dube, Divine Mhindire, Brian Banda and Mitchell Katswairo could not win the balls as FC Platinum pressed them well and forced Bosso into back passes for most of the match.
Highlanders finished the match without a shot on target as FC Platinum lifted their third consecutive Castle Challenge Cup.
