CHIBUKU TASTES BETTER THAN CASTLE?

CHIBUKU TASTES BETTER THAN CASTLE?

By Muziwethu Hadebe

Local soccer fans will be hoping for an exciting Chibuku Super Cup weekend after a largely controversial last Wednesday’s Castle Lager Premier Soccer League.

The Wednesday PSL matches saw Caps United dispute a penalty awarded to Chicken Inn by Bulawayo referee Happy Mabhena.  The penalty was later converted by right back Passmore Bernard for the Game Cocks to complete a double over Makepekepe with the 1-0 win.

The dispute spilled into the terraces with united fans throwing missiles onto the pitch. The violent scenes were amplified after the match as some of the united fans man handled Mabhena as he made the long walk to the dressing rooms.

At Rufaro stadium Dynamos fans also caused a stoppage and were left singing “ Why don’t you just give FC Platinum the points instead of Cheating our team in front of us”, this coming after they felt that Evans Katema had been denied a clear penalty. The match ended goalless.

Highlanders striker Prince Dube saw red in the first half at Nyamhunga stadium in Kariba in what their coach felt was a wrong call. Bosso and ZPC Kariba players also fought in the tunnel as they headed to the dressing rooms at half time. The match ended 1-1.

The PSL is yet to comment on the controversial incidents affecting the true taste of Castle and it is our hope that Chibuku Super will retain its taste of good cheer starting this Saturday.

Ngezi Platinum Stars and Black Rhinos get the action underway today at the Baobab stadium. Ngezi will be the favourites to progress into the semi-finals after they won this cup in 2016 on their arrival in the PSL beating fellow platinum side FC platinum 3-1 with a brace from Liberty Chakoroma and a single strike from Kelvin Bulaji.

On Sunday new comers Manica Diamonds will hope to emulate what Ngezi Platinum stars achieved in 2016 when they face ZPC Kariba at Nyamhunga stadium in Kariba.

The big one is on Sunday at Babourfields stadium as 2014 champions FC Platinum visit Highlanders. Both teams are coming from drawn Castle Larger matches during the week and hope to feel the better taste of Chibuku as compared to the castle they tasted during the week.
