Toronto FC 0
BULAWAYO CITY maintained their top spot in the ZIFA Southern Region Division One league with hard fought win over Toronto FC on Friday.
A Trevor Ndlovu solitary goal on the stroke of half time ensured that City grabbed all three points.
The win saw Bulawayo City maintain their three point lead at the top ahead second placed Talen Vision who beat Main Line 3-0 at Gifford High School with goals from Mlungisi Ncube, Adonis Nyoni and Adrian Banana.
The game started at slow pace as both teams were cautious in their approach, with the game’s first real chance coming in the 11th minute when City’s Thabani Goredema sharp shot came close to opening the score sheet.
At the other end, Mayibongwe Sibonela almost opened the scoring for the visitors but blasted his effort over the bar in the box after some good work on the left wing by Thabiso Ndlela as the Pumula East side utilized the counter attack very well.
City took the lead just before halftime through Ndlovu who took advantage of a rebound to slot the ball into the nets. It was his second goal of the season.
The second half produced very little chances as Toronto sought to sit back and not push forward. City found it hard to break the visitor’s defence something which Toronto Coach (Gift Nkala) was satisfied with at the end of the match.
“We only wanted to frustrate them, we know they want to go back to the Premier League, we wanted them not to score many goals, and it is unfortunate that they scored that one goal but our strategy was to get a goalless draw”, he said.
Bulawayo City coach Try Ncube seemed a frustrated man after the match although he happy with the win.
“The boys played well, it was a professional approach, it was a tight match and we got a goal and controlled the game. As we saw in the second half they didn’t give us any problems, I don’t remember them playing a shot off target, they had 10 players behind the ball”, he said.
