ZIMBABWE TENNIS BOYS made it into the ITF 12 years and Under Juniors Team Competition in Morocco after finishing second to South Africa at the recently ended Southern Africa tournament at the Bulawayo Country Club in Zimbabwe.
The Zimbabwe boys recorded three wins over Botswana, Mozambique and Madagascar while losing one clash with overall winners in the boys South Africa. South Africa won all of their four matches to join Zimbabwe in Morroco for the Africa ITF 12 years and under Team competition.
Zimbabwe’s passage was secured by two 3-0 consecutive wins on Saturday and Sunday over Madagascar and Botswana on Saturday and Sunday respectively.
The most significant one was the Saturday victory as in the singles Marko Milosavljevic beat Andrianaivo of Madagascar 3-6, 7-5 and 6-1. It was his ability to recover after losing the first set that impressed many at the club that is known for golf.
Takura Mhwandagara was the next to shine for Zimbabwe in the singles beating Toddy Rajaobeina 6-0 and 6-1.
Mhwandagara then partnered Mengezi Sibanda in the doubles to win 6-3, 6-1 for the hosts to complete the whitewash over Madagascar.
The girls could not make it to Morocco after they finished third with just one win over Botswana. Madagascar topped the girls with 3 wins out of 3 and will be joined by South Africa who finished second with two wins after they lost one match to Madagascar.
